Finite-Dimensional Spin Glasses: States, Excitations, and Interfaces

We discuss the underlying connections among the thermodynamic properties of short-ranged spin glasses, their behavior in large finite volumes, and the interfaces that separate different pure states, and also ground states and low-lying excitations.

The Relationship between Structural and Optical Properties of GeO2-PbO Glasses

The structural and optical characterization of bulk GeO2-PbO glasses was the goal of this study. In this regard, six different (100-x)GeO2‌-xPbO (15<x<45) glasses were prepared by conventional melt quenching technique between two steel sheets. The produced samples were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and UV-Vis s...

The Physics of the Glass Transition

In this talk, after a short phenomenological introduction on glasses, I will describe some recent progresses that have been done in glasses using the replica method in the definition and in the evaluation of the configurational entropy (or complexity). These results are at the basis of some analytic computations of the thermodynamic glass transition and of the properties below the phase transit...

Luminescence Properties of TeO2-LiF-Gd2O3 Glasses

In this work, the structural properties and spectroscopic behavior 80 mol.%TeO2-20mol.%LiF glasses which were doped with 0. 05, 0. 2 mole% Gd2O3 have been studied. It was shown that,  by increasing the amount of Gd2O3 the glass stability was decreased. The PL emissions at 431nm and 627nm wavelengths were distinguished by 320nm excitation. The FT-IR analysis showed deformed TeO4 groups in these ...

Structural Investigation, Physical and Optical Properties of Mixed Alkali Bismuth Borate Glasses

Lead free, eco-friendly bismuth borate glasses doped with alkali oxides of composition xLi2O+(30-x)Na2O+55B2O3+15Bi2O3 (x = 5,10,15,20,25) were prepared by melt quenching technique. Amorphous nature of glasses was confirmed by X-ray diffraction. Density measurements were carried out at room temperature by standard principle of Archimedes with Xylene as an immersion liquid. The non-linear ...

The effect of substrate on thermodynamic and kinetic anisotropies in atomic thin films.

Glasses have a wide range of technological applications. The recent discovery of ultrastable glasses that are obtained by depositing the vapor of a glass-forming liquid onto the surface of a cold substrate has sparked renewed interest in the effects of confinements on physicochemical properties of liquids and glasses. Here, we use molecular dynamics simulations to study the effect of substrate ...
